President Moon holds phone call at the request of Turkmenistan President
Discussion on Joint Interests Including COVID-19 Response Cooperation... Request for Attention to Energy Infrastructure Projects
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 28th, President Moon Jae-in had a phone call for about 25 minutes starting at 4 p.m. at the request of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, President of Turkmenistan.
Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for the Blue House, explained, "The two leaders discussed substantive cooperation progress such as follow-up measures after President Moon's state visit to Turkmenistan last year and joint interests including cooperation in response to COVID-19."
President Moon evaluated that under the leadership of President Berdimuhamedow, who is a medical doctor and healthcare expert, Turkmenistan has achieved good results in COVID-19 prevention. President Berdimuhamedow agreed on the necessity of international solidarity and cooperation to overcome COVID-19 and expressed hope to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in responding to COVID-19.
Spokesperson Kang explained, "The two leaders evaluated that the Kiyanly Gas Chemical Plant, which both leaders visited together last year, is a symbol of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, and requested President Berdimuhamedow's attention and support so that follow-up projects after last year's summit in economic and industrial fields such as energy, infrastructure, defense, textiles, shipbuilding, railroads, and ICT can continue to make progress."
Spokesperson Kang conveyed, "President Berdimuhamedow agreed that the Kiyanly Plant is a successful cooperation case between the two countries, appreciated the active trade and the entry of Korean companies into key sectors, and said he expects active cooperation going forward."

President Berdimuhamedow said, "Today's call proceeded well in a comfortable atmosphere like friends," and President Moon responded, "As a return visit to last year's state visit, I hope President Berdimuhamedow's visit to Korea will be realized as conditions such as the COVID-19 situation permit."
