Seoul High Court Grants Defendant Bail on Condition of Electronic Device Attachment
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The Seoul High Court Criminal Division 5 (Presiding Judges Yoon Kang-yeol, Jang Cheol-ik, Kim Yong-ha) announced on the 28th that it granted bail to defendant A, who was detained under the condition of attaching a real-time location tracking device and restricting residence.
Earlier, the Ministry of Justice introduced the "Electronic Device Attachment Conditional Bail (Electronic Bail)" system on the 5th of this month. When electronic bail is decided, conditions such as home detention or outing restrictions are imposed to prevent the risk of flight and to protect victims from contact, and probation officers monitor this 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
A was indicted last October on charges of causing injury (serious injury) by striking the head of a victim under care with a blunt object because the victim did not obey and tried to get off the bed.
A, who was sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial, is fully denying the charges in the appeal trial as well. The court issued the bail approval decision on this day, ordering A to reside at the designated residence, report personal information to the jurisdictional probation office, and follow instructions.
