Silla University Collaborates Between Colleges to Train Aviation Specialists
The Only Aviation Specialized College in the Southeast Region... Accelerating the Training of Aviation Professionals
Assisting Non-Aviation College Students in Obtaining Aviation-Related Certifications and Employment
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Silla University is launching a program to cultivate aviation professionals through collaboration among its colleges, including the College of Aviation, the MICT Convergence Engineering College, and the College of Engineering.
This collaboration was established to utilize Silla University's infrastructure, which houses the only aviation-specialized college in the southeastern region, to assist students from the College of Aviation and other colleges who aspire to enter the aviation field in obtaining certifications and securing employment.
Professor Kim Dae-won of the Department of Intelligent Automotive Engineering at the MICT Convergence Engineering College is preparing a business agreement with a well-known domestic unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) design and manufacturing company to expand employment opportunities for students in the aviation sector.
Professor Kim is guiding students toward career paths as military civilian employees, responding to the increasing demand for personnel in UAV operations within the military.
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the College of Engineering is also focusing on training specialized personnel in aviation component materials.
The Department plans to cultivate experts in aviation component materials through education on manufacturing processes and theories of composite materials, metals, electrical and mechanical materials, as well as research methods for developing new aviation materials.
The College of Aviation will support other colleges by providing the latest information and operating educational programs related to the aviation field.
Silla University expects this cooperative effort to provide practical assistance in certification acquisition and employment for engineering students who have a strong interest in aviation.
The club ‘737,’ formed mainly by students from the Department of Intelligent Automotive Engineering and the Department of Convergence Mechanical Engineering at the MICT Convergence Engineering College, has created its own study group to prepare for national aviation-related certifications such as the Aircraft Maintenance Technician and Aviation Industry Engineer.
As a result, all seven club members passed the written exams for Aircraft Maintenance Technician and Aviation Equipment Maintenance Technician this year, and three of them obtained the Aviation Equipment Maintenance Technician certification.
Since 2018, professors from the Department of Aviation Service at Silla University have been operating the Aviation Academy, an aviation crew-related education program, for students from the Department of Chinese Language and Chinese Studies and the Department of International Tourism Management.
So far, over 30 students have advanced to positions as flight attendants and airport ground staff at Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Air Busan, and others.
Operated as an after-school program, the Aviation Academy is popular among students as it offers practical training necessary for the field, including obtaining the airline reservation certification (Korean Air TOPAS Level 2), in-flight service, and image making.
