Damyang-gun Focuses on Response Amid Tension Following First COVID-19 Confirmed Case
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] On the 26th, Damyang-gun, Jeonnam (Governor Choi Hyung-sik), where the first COVID-19 case was confirmed, is focusing on response efforts by urgently establishing quarantine measures amid tension.
According to Damyang-gun on the 27th, A (resident of Changpyeong-myeon), the first confirmed COVID-19 case in the region, was found to have visited a table tennis club located in Buk-gu, Gwangju, where a mass outbreak occurred on the 25th. A was tested at a screening clinic the next day and was confirmed positive. A is currently isolated and receiving treatment at Suncheon Medical Center.
The county also tested A’s spouse and placed them under self-quarantine, while intensively disinfecting the confirmed patient’s residence and identified movement paths.
The County Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters is informing the public of the confirmed patient’s movement paths through disaster text messages and the county website, advising those with overlapping routes to get tested. Detailed movement paths will be promptly posted on the website and the county’s official SNS as investigations proceed.
Governor Choi Hyung-sik said in an emergency statement, “It is regrettable and apologetic to report a confirmed case during a difficult time when everyone is suffering from flood damage. We will do our best to prevent further spread in the community.”
