Songpa-gu Offers Free Flu Vaccinations for Long-term Care Workers
Improving Care Service Quality Through Enhanced Treatment for Workers at Elderly Welfare Facilities Starting September
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will provide free flu vaccinations from September 1 to November 10 for long-term care workers employed at elderly welfare facilities in the district.
The district stated that improving the treatment of workers at care facilities will also help enhance the quality of elderly care services.
The free flu vaccination targets approximately 5,000 long-term care workers aged 61 or younger (born after January 1, 1959) working at 181 long-term care institutions in the area (▲elderly medical welfare facilities ▲home-based elderly welfare facilities ▲home-based long-term care institutions ▲elderly residential welfare facilities), including ▲caregivers ▲social workers ▲nurses (assistant nurses) ▲physical (occupational) therapists ▲dental hygienists ▲cooks, etc.
Recipients can choose to get vaccinated at a hospital of their choice by paying out-of-pocket first and then claiming the cost from Songpa-gu, or get vaccinated at an institution-affiliated hospital. The actual cost of the quadrivalent vaccine will be supported, with a budget of approximately 142 million KRW allocated for this purpose.
Notably, this project was first implemented nationwide by Songpa-gu in 2018. Since 2019, it has been adopted as a Seoul city project, with all autonomous districts participating to improve care services, making its significance even greater.
Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “This project was essential for care workers who suffer from emotional exhaustion and job stress, which is why it was able to expand to a city-wide project in Seoul. We will always listen to residents’ opinions and do our best to develop policies that meet their needs to ensure care services satisfy both facility users and workers.”
