Gangbuk-gu Launches Initiative to Activate 'Local Shared Cars'
Shared Cars Available at Apartments, Neighborhoods, and Company Entrances... Tiered Discounts by Type... Linking Traffic Induction Charges to Encourage Corporate Participation in Local Shared Cars
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Gyeom-su) has launched an initiative to promote ‘Local Shared Cars’ to alleviate parking difficulties in the area and enhance residents' convenience.
Local Shared Cars are a service that allows users to rent shared cars placed in easily accessible locations at discounted prices. When resident groups, companies, or apartment management offices secure parking spaces for shared cars and apply to the district office, the sharing operator assigns vehicles accordingly.
Previously, shared vehicles were used mainly in busy areas near subway stations with high foot traffic, but now they are placed right in front of homes and workplaces for more convenient use.
By grouping shared cars scattered throughout the area into village community units, daily life-oriented car sharing is expected to become much easier.
The district is focusing on expanding shared cars in cooperation with apartment residents' representative meetings and neighborhood autonomous councils. In particular, it plans to accelerate efforts to encourage corporate participation to reduce urban traffic demand. Companies using shared cars can receive up to a 10% reduction in traffic inducement charges.
Additionally, the district plans to significantly expand dedicated shared car parking spaces in public parking lots and resident parking zones to improve user convenience.
Discount rates vary depending on the target group. ‘Apartment Shared Cars’ offer a 30% discount to residents, ‘Neighborhood Shared Cars’ provide up to 50% discount to parking space providers and 20% to local residents, and ‘Business Shared Cars’ offer a 20% discount to corporate employees.
Residents wishing to use shared vehicles can reserve them for the desired time via a smartphone app and rent cars nearby. For further inquiries, contact the Gangbuk-gu Office Transportation Administration Division.
