Pohang City Hosts Event for Families with 10 Children... Mayor Lee Kang-deok Calls It a "Low Birthrate Overcoming Model"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Pohang City in Gyeongbuk announced that Mayor Lee Kang-deok invited a family with 10 children residing in the area to the mayor's office on the 25th and held an event to encourage parents with many children.
Mayor Lee said, "Children from large families tend to have good social skills and a strong sense of consideration for others, so they will do well in whatever they undertake," and emphasized, "Preferential policies for hiring multiple children in public enterprises are essential for national development."
Mother of many children, Kim Jong-hwa, said, "Raising many children is difficult, but the benefits far outweigh the challenges," and expressed gratitude, "Thanks to government support, we have come this far, and I hope that more assistance will continue to be provided to large families."
Meanwhile, Pohang City is promoting various benefits to increase the birth rate and reduce the burden of childcare expenses. These include discounts on water and sewage fees for households with three or more children, as well as reductions in public parking fees, workplace mom SOS service fees, and fees for using city library programs for families with multiple children.
