Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young: "Zero Tolerance for Interference with COVID-19 Quarantine"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yeom Tae-young, mayor of Suwon City, announced that legal action will be taken with a zero-tolerance policy against those who maliciously obstruct COVID-19 quarantine measures and violate the law.
On the 25th, at the 'COVID-19 Response Progress Report Meeting' held in the Disaster Safety Situation Room of Suwon City Hall, Mayor Yeom said, "It is regrettable that some people are making our society difficult with antisocial behavior, disregarding the efforts of citizens enduring inconvenience and quarantine authorities to prevent the spread of COVID-19," and emphasized, "Those people must be reported without exception and receive appropriate punishment."
Mayor Yeom added, "There was a case where a person who ignored the quarantine authorities' request to 'take a COVID-19 test if you attended the Gwanghwamun rally' went about daily life and infected their entire family," and stressed, "We must not overlook the actions of those who caused social confusion."
Earlier, on the 21st, Suwon City issued an urgent administrative order for voluntary reporting and diagnostic testing targeting those related to Sarang Jeil Church in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, and visitors to the August 15 Gwanghwamun rally.
Those who violate the order may face up to two years imprisonment or a fine of up to 20 million won under the 'Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act' (Article 79). If the violation causes the spread of infection, the city may exercise its right to claim all costs, including quarantine expenses.
Mayor Yeom also instructed thorough preparations for Typhoon No. 8 'Bavi'.
As of 10 a.m. on the day, Typhoon Bavi is moving northward toward Jeju from about 460 km southwest of Seogwipo. The Korea Meteorological Administration expects Bavi to pass west of Jeju Island on the 26th, move into the West Sea, and make landfall in Hwanghae Province on the 27th.
