Jeongeup-si, Social Distancing Raised to Level 2
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 25th that it has raised social distancing to Level 2 from the 23rd of last month until the 6th of next month to prevent the spread of the second wave of COVID-19 within the region.
Accordingly, the city has prepared follow-up measures and strengthened quarantine measures in accordance with the social distancing upgrade and urged strict compliance with administrative procedures.
This is due to the urgent recognition that if the spread of COVID-19 is not quickly curbed, Jeongeup will not be safe from COVID-19 and will face a large-scale outbreak.
With this measure, all gatherings, meetings, and events of 50 or more people indoors and 100 or more people outdoors are completely prohibited.
Additionally, wearing masks indoors is mandatory, and masks must be worn outdoors when multiple people gather for assemblies, performances, and similar events.
Furthermore, compliance with core quarantine rules is also mandatory for 10 types of high-risk facilities such as entertainment bars, hunting pochas, singing practice rooms, and PC rooms, as well as 11 types of medium-risk facilities including academies, performance halls, and movie theaters.
Welfare facilities such as social welfare centers and daycare centers are recommended to close temporarily.
However, essential services such as emergency care will be maintained even during closures to minimize confusion.
Religious facilities are prohibited from holding small group meetings and providing food, and are encouraged to switch worship services to non-face-to-face online services.
Meanwhile, the city conducted on-site inspections of religious facilities on the 23rd to strengthen quarantine measures to block the spread of COVID-19, which has recently been spreading mainly in religious facilities.
As a result of the inspection, out of 288 religious facilities in the region (285 Protestant churches, 3 other religions), 232 held worship services, and among them, 35 facilities partially failed to comply with quarantine guidelines.
The city plans to form an on-site inspection team for religious facilities according to administrative measures restricting gatherings (compliance with quarantine rules), provide notices and guidance on strengthened quarantine measures, and strongly recommend non-face-to-face worship services.
In addition, to implement the Level 2 social distancing quarantine guidelines, the city will continue to conduct on-site inspections and other measures for applicable facilities and business sectors.
In case of non-compliance, the city plans to respond strictly under the principle of zero tolerance, including criminal charges and claims for compensation.
