Successful Pest Control Leads to 'Bountiful Harvest'... Limited Sale of 100 Bags, 4kg Each Planned
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan is experiencing a bountiful harvest. The first rice harvesting in the Busan area will begin on the 28th in the fields of Jukdong-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan.
Amid the nationwide hardships caused by COVID-19, the news of a bountiful harvest in the fields is a welcome sound.
The farm holding the first rice harvesting event is that of Mr. Kim Kyung-yang. The rice planted on April 25th was harvested after 126 days, two days later than last year, due to delayed ripening caused by the prolonged rainy season.
Early-maturing rice varieties, which account for 7.2% (167 hectares) of Busan’s rice cultivation area, are mostly high-quality varieties known for their excellent taste, such as Ungwang, Haedamssal, and Jinok.
This year, although severe early pest and disease outbreaks were expected to cause damage, timely control measures including drone aerial spraying were implemented, resulting in better crop conditions compared to last year. Full-scale harvesting will begin in early September.
The rice harvested this time will be processed and branded as "Rice that Overcame COVID-19." It is planned to be served on the tables of consumers weary from the pandemic, with a limited sale of 100 packages of 4kg each.
