Statistics Korea Selects 5 Outstanding Public Officials for Proactive Administration, Including Information Officer Mi
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] On the 24th, Statistics Korea announced that it selected Jeong Bomi, Senior Officer of the Price Trends Division, and Gil Yumi, Senior Officer of the Big Data Statistics Division, as the 'Outstanding Public Officials and Departments for Proactive Administration in the 2nd Quarter of 2020' and conducted awards. Outstanding public officials and departments will be provided with incentives such as the highest grade in performance evaluation and reward leave.
Senior Officer Jeong Bomi actively collected daily price and supply information during the period when supply instability of preventive items such as masks spread due to COVID-19 and provided it to related agencies. Senior Officer Gil Yumi analyzed population movement using mobile big data from the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak and proactively provided data weekly to disaster response agencies such as the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters starting in February.
A total of five proactive administration outstanding public officials were selected this time. Statistics Korea preliminarily selected 14 cases out of 22 cases of proactive administration merit in the first half of the year through the first preliminary review and finally selected them through the 'Statistics Korea Proactive Administration Support Committee,' which includes external civilian members, considering public perception, importance, and the proactiveness and creativity of the person in charge.
The 'Big Data Statistics Division,' which actively provided information to related agencies by analyzing population movement using big data and conducting online price surveys to overcome COVID-19, was selected as the outstanding department for proactive administration.

Meanwhile, Kang Shinwook, Commissioner of Statistics Korea, stated, "To overcome crises facing our country recently, such as infectious diseases and typhoons, scientific policy responses based on data through inter-ministerial cooperation are necessary rather than efforts by a single ministry." He added, "We will continue to make our best efforts to provide statistical information needed by policy ministries with expertise in various statistics and in-depth big data analysis."
