Lee Hyuk-je, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member, Urges Active Financial Support for Flood Damage Relief
Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education Urges Thorough Damage Assessment and Support for Students in Flood-Affected Areas
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Lee Hyukje, Chair of the Budget and Accounts Special Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, announced on the 21st that he urged Jeollanam-do and the Jeollanam-do Office of Education to provide prompt and practical financial support to eight cities and counties in the province, including Naju, Damyang, Gokseong, and Gurye, which were recently affected by heavy rain damage.
Although these areas have been designated as special disaster zones by the government and disaster relief funds will be provided, the amount is far from sufficient to cover the basic necessities of life for flood victims who have lost their homes.
Moreover, at a time when flood recovery is actively underway, the nationwide spread of COVID-19 has made even volunteer support difficult, further exacerbating the hardships of the flood victims.
Chair Lee Hyukje stated, “Currently, support such as temporary housing, relief supplies, and damage recovery is ongoing for the flood victims, but with the added impact of COVID-19, broader and more realistic measures are needed,” and urged Jeonnam Province to “swiftly implement administrative measures and expand multifaceted financial support so that disaster relief funds can provide practical help to the flood victims as soon as possible.”
