Muan-gun Actively Utilizes Local Resources to Promote 'Our Neighborhood Art'
Creation of a Cultural Enjoyment Space in Namak Central Park
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 21st that it will promote the 2020 Public Art Project "Our Neighborhood Art" to create jobs in the arts sector and establish cultural enjoyment spaces for residents.
"Our Neighborhood Art" is a large-scale public art project hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Jeollanam-do, organized by Muan-gun, and promoted in cooperation with the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service.
With participation from over 8,500 people across 228 local governments nationwide, Muan-gun is investing 400 million KRW to carry out the project under the theme "The Tree Where Imagination Grows."
The project site is Namak Central Park. The artist team selection and online resident survey have been completed, and the project will officially begin in September and is scheduled to be completed by February next year.
The artist team will actively utilize local resources to install and exhibit public art works in urban parks within the region using various media such as sculpture, media art, and ceramics to bring vitality, and will encourage participation from local residents.
The selected artist team is the SORO Performance Unit, consisting of planner Moon Jae-seon and artists from the Muan area.

A Muan-gun official stated, "This project aims to provide jobs for artists and expand opportunities for residents to enjoy culture and arts," adding, "By conducting the project around Namak Central Park, we expect to revitalize the depressed commercial district of Namak."
