"Cough Completely Gone... Facilities Are Excellent," Ju Ok-sun Shares Update After Testing Positive for COVID-19
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] On the 15th, Joo Ok-soon (63), the representative of the conservative group 'Eommabudae,' who tested positive for COVID-19 after attending the Gwanghwamun rally, delivered news via a YouTube live broadcast from the hospital.
On the 21st, Joo said on her YouTube channel 'Eomma Broadcasting,' "After taking medicine, my cough has completely subsided. It's hard to tell if the early symptoms of COVID-19 are a cold," adding, "Maybe because I have been resting, I woke up this morning without coughing even once, and I am recovering well."
According to multiple media outlets, after attending the rally, Joo underwent a diagnostic test at the screening clinic set up at Cheongshim International Hospital in Seorak-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province on the 19th, and tested positive on the 20th. It is also reported that Joo's husband tested positive.
Joo explained, "I am at the Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center, and the facilities are very good. I think there is no better country than South Korea," adding, "It is a good and convenient place to live. If you are sick, you just get treated." Although she said her cough had subsided, Joo coughed during the broadcast.
Regarding Rep. Ha Tae-kyung of the United Future Party criticizing the Gwanghwamun rally, she strongly opposed, saying, "Is the current target of attack the general public? Ha Tae-kyung has a very wrong idea," and "Has Ha Tae-kyung turned around? He should be attacking President Moon Jae-in, so how can he shoot at his own allies?"
Meanwhile, on the 15th, Joo raised concerns about infection by handing a water bottle to Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, who was giving a speech without a mask at the Gwanghwamun rally. It is also reported that Joo shook Pastor Jeon's hand.
Joo also became the center of controversy by saying on YouTube the day after the August 15th rally, which is presumed to have caused a large-scale COVID-19 infection, "I slept at a jjimjilbang (Korean sauna) last night."
