According to Canadian media including CAC Broadcasting on the 19th (local time), Raymond Lillington (70), who lives in Dingwall, Nova Scotia, matched all six numbers in the Lotto 6/49 draw announced on the 15th, winning 17.4 million Canadian dollars. He had also won the same lottery in 2013, receiving 3.2 million Canadian dollars.
Lillington purchased both winning tickets from a lottery retailer in Victoria County. After his 2013 win, he continued to buy lottery tickets and joked with acquaintances that he would win again, but he never imagined it would actually happen, CBC reported.
After attending the prize payment event with his wife on the day, Lillington said at a press conference, "I thought this couldn't be real. This is impossible. Such a thing cannot happen," adding, "I still can't believe it." He said that when he confirmed his winning numbers, he looked at his wife and repeated the numbers six or seven times before accepting it as real.
Lillington’s wife, Gay, said, "At first, I thought he was joking, but when I saw his face, I realized 'Oh, this is real.'" Lillington said, "When I saw that I won this lottery, I was more overwhelmed than the first time," adding, "This time, I really, really, really did not expect to win."
Having retired from the Canada Parks Service, Lillington used his first winnings to prepare for retirement by buying a new house and car and traveling. This time, he said he plans to help his five children and six grandchildren. In particular, he expressed his intention to support local community public institutions with this latest prize money.
