Apply for 6 Welfare Benefits with the 'The Gangnam' App
Placement of Agency Staff at Dong Resident Centers for Basic Livelihood Security, Emergency Welfare, and Disability Pension to Support IT-Disadvantaged Groups
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jung Soon-gyun) has been operating the nation's first mobile simple application service for six welfare benefits through the ‘The Gangnam’ app since the 18th.
Through this service, welfare benefits can be applied for with just mobile phone authentication and simple information input via the ‘The Gangnam’ app.
The categories include ▲Basic Livelihood Security ▲Emergency Welfare ▲Basic Pension ▲Disability Pension ▲Single-Parent Family ▲Low-Income Class, among others.
In particular, to activate the youth workforce recruited through the Hope Job Project in July, the district assigned them as agents to 22 community service centers within the area to assist IT-vulnerable groups such as the elderly with online application tasks.
Moreover, the agents, who completed two rounds of preliminary training since last month, help applicants not only by delivering required documents but also by providing telephone guidance on how to fill out forms and assisting with electronic submission.

Im Dong-ho, Director of the Welfare Policy Division, stated, “Simple medical and welfare benefit-related documents that do not require face-to-face consultation will be accepted via mobile applications, and by utilizing information and communication technology, we plan to expand online care services for solitary elderly, disabled persons, and vulnerable groups.” He added, “As a leader in the Ontact era, we will continue to proactively present various forms of non-face-to-face welfare services and strive to create an ‘Inclusive Welfare City, Gangnam.’”
