Samsung TV Expands Next-Generation Image Quality Technology 'HDR10+' Video Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Samsung Electronics announced on the 20th that streaming services applying the next-generation image quality technology 'HDR10+' are continuously expanding.
HDR10+ is an HDR (High Dynamic Range) industry standard led by Samsung Electronics that optimizes brightness and contrast ratio for each scene to enhance the three-dimensional effect of the video and realize accurate color expression, providing users with a perfect image quality experience.
Google's representative video streaming service, Google Play Movies, started HDR10+ service from the end of July. This service, launched in 117 countries worldwide including North America, Europe, and Korea, is available on Samsung Smart TVs.
Through the Google Play Movies app, users can enjoy high-quality HDR10+ 4K HDR content, with representative titles including 'Joker', 'Aquaman', 'Wonder Woman', 'Shazam!', and 'Crazy Rich Asians'.
The Google Play Movies app plans to apply HDR10+ to more platforms in the future.
Samsung Electronics established HDR10+ LLC (HDR10+ Technology Joint Venture) in 2017 and started a full-scale certification program from 2018.
The launch of the Google Play Movies HDR10+ service is expected to accelerate the expansion of the HDR10+ standard alliance, which currently has 108 member companies and is rapidly growing.
Plain Archive, a leading 4K UHD Blu-ray title producer in Korea, and Candit, a content remastering specialized studio, are producing HDR10+ UHD Blu-ray titles for the 64th Cannes Film Festival Best Director award-winning film 'Drive' and the closing film of the 24th Busan International Film Festival 'Yoonhee'.
Korea's leading video service company Watcha, in cooperation with Candit supported by the Korea Creative Content Agency's New Content Center, plans to launch HDR10+ 4K UHD services starting with the films 'Mr. Zoo', 'I Can Speak', and 'Your Wedding' in the second half of this year.
Samsung Electronics supported HDR10+ technology and solutions during the mastering process of these 4K UHD Blu-ray titles and services to foster the domestic HDR video industry and plans to continuously cooperate with all companies interested in HDR10+ in the future.
