Jeonnam Province Secures 5.4 Billion KRW in National Funding for Hiring Tourism Site Quarantine Personnel
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 19th that it has decided to promote a project to improve quarantine readiness at tourist sites to ensure a safe travel environment and alleviate public anxiety.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to hire 3,231 quarantine management personnel to be deployed at 1,071 locations nationwide, with a total cost of 23.9 billion KRW to be fully funded by the national government.
Jeonnam Province applied to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for a budget to deploy 728 quarantine management personnel at 269 major tourist sites from next month through December, securing 5.4 billion KRW in national funds. This amount accounts for 22% of the Ministry’s support budget, the largest share nationwide.
This is higher than Jeju Island and Gangwon Province, which are well-known domestic travel destinations, and is expected to serve as an opportunity to further enhance the clean Jeonnam tourism brand image amid the deteriorated tourism conditions caused by COVID-19.
The quarantine management personnel hired through this project will perform tasks at major tourist sites in Jeonnam Province, including guiding tourists on mask-wearing and hand sanitizer use, maintaining social distancing of over 2 meters, managing tourist flow, and providing quarantine guideline information.
Hiring will be conducted autonomously by city and county governments based on open recruitment principles, and detailed information can be checked on city and county websites after the 20th.
The target applicants include unemployed or on-leave workers in the tourism industry, those with experience in the tourism field or graduates of related departments, and others with public institution work experience. The plan includes preferential measures for some vulnerable employment groups, which is expected to contribute to alleviating job shortages caused by COVID-19.
