View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] On the 18th, Minister of Environment Jo Myung-rae visited Namwon City in Jeollabuk-do, located downstream of the Seomjin River, which suffered damage from heavy rain, to hear on-site opinions and discuss government-level support measures.
According to the Ministry of Environment, Namwon experienced flooding damage due to the collapse of embankments caused by heavy rain exceeding 430mm on the 7th and 8th, an event that occurs once every 500 years.
Minister Jo, An Young-gyu, Director of Disaster Management at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and Park Sung-jin, Director of the Iksan Regional Land Management Office at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, met with Namwon Mayor Lee Hwan-joo to hear about the city's recovery status and requests.
They plan to promptly investigate and analyze the causes of the flood and establish measures to prevent recurrence. A request for committee member recommendations has been sent to related local governments to form a dam management investigation committee.
