Warm Helping Hands for Flood Victims Continue in Seo-gu, Gwangju
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Warm-hearted support continues to help flood victims in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, who suffered damage from the prolonged rainy season and record-breaking heavy rains.
On the 17th, according to Seo-gu (District Mayor Seo Daeseok), the Seo-gu Residents' Autonomy Council (Chairman Kim Yonggil) donated 5 million won in flood relief funds and an additional 1 million won in the chairman's personal name on the 14th.
Also, the Dongcheon-Yudeok Corporate Exchange Council (Chairman Won Chungguk) extended a helping hand for damage recovery by donating 10 million won.
Earlier, on the 8th, when the heavy rain damage was the most severe, SM Trading Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Hoyong) provided 15 water pumps, which were promptly deployed to the flooded areas.
The donated flood relief funds will be used to support damage recovery for flood victims in Seo-gu through the Gwangju Community Chest of Korea.
Manpower support for damage recovery also continued.
Various self-governing organizations such as the Residents' Autonomy Association and Saemaul Association are conducting volunteer activities, and about 250 general volunteers are participating through the Seo-gu Volunteer Center, putting all their efforts into damage recovery.
In addition, soldiers and public officials have engaged in flood recovery efforts such as maintaining Gwangju Stream and its banks, working at the flower farming complex in Seochang-dong, and restoring homes and businesses damaged by flooding.
Kim Yonggil, chairman of the Residents' Autonomy Council, said, “We prepared flood relief funds to provide a small help to residents who suffered huge property damage from this heavy rain. I hope that small contributions from many people will help residents return to their daily lives as soon as possible.”
