After a period of stabilization following the confirmation of a Pohang firefighter on the 14th, two new COVID-19 cases were reported on the 17th in the Gyeongbuk region: a woman in her 60s living in Sangju City and a Bangladeshi man in his 30s who had come to Gyeongsan City.
According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 17th, a 67-year-old woman who attended the Seoul Sarang Jeil Church worship service from the 9th to the 12th stayed at her sister’s house in Ansan before returning to her home in Sangju on the 16th. She was tested at the Sangju Public Health Center and confirmed positive.
Additionally, a 31-year-old Bangladeshi man residing in Gyeongsan visited his hometown in March and returned to Korea through Incheon Airport on the 2nd. He tested positive during a test conducted upon completion of his self-quarantine and was admitted to Andong Medical Center on the 16th.
As a result, as of midnight on the same day, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Gyeongbuk region rose to 1,372. The number of recovered patients and deaths are 1,302 and 58, respectively.

Earlier, a 39-year-old Pohang firefighter who had visited the home of a confirmed case in Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, on the 9th and 10th developed a fever and tested positive at the Pohang Public Health Center on the 13th. He was admitted to Andong Medical Center. Subsequently, tests conducted on 82 contacts and firefighters who shared the same space all returned negative results. This marks the first community transmission case in Pohang in 149 days since March 17.
