Jeju-Visited COVID-19 Patient No. 70 in Gimpo City, Group's Movement Routes Revealed

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Chang-won] As signs of a second nationwide COVID-19 wave are emerging, health authorities in Jeju, where confirmed cases have visited, are maintaining vigilance by publicly disclosing the movements of confirmed patients.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced that as of 3 p.m. on the 16th, 23 contacts (including those on the aircraft and at local tourist sites) have been identified in connection with Patient A (the 70th confirmed case in Gimpo City), who visited Jeju for 2 nights and 3 days from August 10 to 12 and was confirmed positive at the Gimpo City Public Health Center on the 15th.
During the epidemiological investigation of Patient A, Jeju confirmed through the Chungju City Public Health Center that A’s parents, who traveled together, were also diagnosed with COVID-19 around 1 a.m. on the 16th.
As of 5 p.m. on the 16th, contacts of Patient A’s group include △ 4 family members (parents confirmed positive in Chungju City, children and spouse tested negative in Gimpo City) △ 17 passengers on the aircraft △ 6 employees at local tourist sites and lodging facilities.
Jeju Province has issued quarantine orders to 23 contacts excluding family members and completed self-quarantine measures for all 7 local contacts.
Jeju Province became aware of Patient A’s visit to Jeju around 9 a.m. on the 16th and immediately began fact verification and its own epidemiological investigation.
Patient A arrived on August 10 at approximately 1:45 p.m. via Asiana Airlines flight OZ8433 and departed on August 12 at approximately 2:30 p.m. via Asiana Airlines flight OZ8434.
On the 10th, Patient A arrived earlier with their child and around 2 p.m. rented a car to visit Jeju Dinosaur Land in Aewol-eup, Jeju City. Around 5:10 p.m., they picked up their parents residing in Chungju City at Jeju International Airport and moved to their accommodation (Hanwha Resort in Hoewon-dong, Jeju City).
On the 11th, they visited Pyoseon Beach around 10 a.m. After dining at ‘Chunsim’s Main Branch’ located in Changcheon-ri, Andeok-myeon at 5:15 p.m., they toured Cheonjiyeon Waterfall around 6:30 p.m. and then returned to their accommodation.
On the 12th, after checking out from the accommodation, they visited ‘The Romantic: The Most Beautiful Days of My Life’ caf? in Gyorae-ri, Jocheon-eup around noon. Later, they visited the duty-free shop at Jeju International Airport around 2 p.m. and departed Jeju on Asiana Airlines flight OZ8434 around 2:30 p.m.
Jeju Province’s initial epidemiological investigation, including Patient A’s statements and CCTV verification, confirmed that Patient A and family wore masks at all identified locations after arrival and used a rental car for transportation during their stay.
Jeju Province has completed disinfection and quarantine measures at 11 locations including tourist sites, restaurants, and accommodations visited by Patient A’s group.
Additionally, all 7 local contacts identified so far, including accommodation staff, have been identified and placed under self-quarantine.
Jeju Province plans to promptly identify and quarantine any additional contacts if found.
Meanwhile, Jeju Province stated that Patient A’s parents (Chungju City’s 14th and 15th confirmed cases) are asymptomatic confirmed cases who were tested on the 15th and confirmed positive, and according to the Central Disease Control Headquarters guidelines*, they are not subject to Jeju’s epidemiological investigation.
Jeju Province is publicly sharing the initial movement routes of Patient A’s group via disaster safety text messages, the official website, and social media.
Furthermore, Jeju Province urges anyone experiencing fever, respiratory symptoms, or other suspected COVID-19 symptoms to immediately contact the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency call center (without area code, 1339) or their local public health center and visit a screening clinic for testing.

In this regard, Governor Won Hee-ryong, presiding over an emergency countermeasure meeting at 11 a.m. following the elevation of social distancing to Level 2 in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, stated, “There have been complaints recently about cases where masks are not being worn,” and added, “It is necessary to consider issuing administrative orders to prohibit entry to multi-use facilities and tourist sites if masks are not worn.”
