Two Additional COVID-19 Cases Linked to Karaoke in Gwangju... Health Authorities on Alert
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] As two additional COVID-19 cases linked to a nightlife establishment in Gwangju have been confirmed, concerns about the spread are increasing.
Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 16th that two more COVID-19 cases have been confirmed, classified as cases number 229 and 230.
Case 229 is a man in his 30s residing in Hyocheon City Pradium, Imaam-dong, Nam-gu, and case 230 is a man in his 40s living in Jungheung S-Class Sky31, Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu; both were confirmed to have visited a karaoke room in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu.
The total number of confirmed cases related to nightlife establishments is now nine. Visitors to 18 nightlife venues identified so far are undergoing reporting, registration, and COVID-19 testing, and according to Gwangju city officials, there is a very high possibility that the number of confirmed cases will increase further.
Starting today, Gwangju city will conduct joint inspections with autonomous districts and the police on high-risk facilities subject to gathering restrictions, including "Danran Jujeom (karaoke bars), Hunting Pocha (outdoor drinking pubs), Gamseong Jujeom (emotional bars), Collatec (dance clubs), and karaoke rooms."
Any business found engaging in illegal activities will be immediately shut down under a zero-tolerance policy and reported for violations of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act.

Furthermore, if illegal activities are found in multiple establishments, additional administrative measures such as a complete ban on gatherings and facility closures will be enforced for all related facilities.
