SKT Offers Dokdo Scenery and Wave Sounds in VR for Liberation Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] SK Telecom has launched VR travel content capturing the scenery and sounds of Dokdo Manghyangdae and Ulleungdo using a 360-degree camera in celebration of Liberation Day.
On the 16th, SK Telecom announced the release of the 5G ‘Jump VR’ travel content ‘Sinsun Delivery’ 815 special edition featuring Dokdo and Ulleungdo, introducing Dokdo Manghyangdae and major tourist spots in Ulleungdo through a 360-degree VR camera.
‘Sinsun Delivery’ is a healing-type 5G-based VR content that focuses on nature by minimizing the hosts’ explanations. Its distinctive feature is uploading the footage the day after filming to show the ‘fresh’ local scenes. It offers the scenery along with natural sounds such as waterfalls, bird calls, and insects for users who cannot visit travel destinations due to COVID-19 and the rainy season.
The newly released ‘Dokdo·Ulleungdo’ edition captures the view of the East Sea from Dokdo Manghyangdae with a 360-degree camera, delivering sounds of waves and birds on Dokdo. It also introduces Ulleungdo’s coastal walking trails and the underwater aquarium ‘Cheonbu Underwater Observatory’.
‘Sinsun Delivery’ began as an internal project of SK Telecom’s 5GX Service Business Division in May. The VR content filmed at Naksansa Temple in Gangwon Province, uploaded the next day without explanations or subtitles by the managers in charge, gained popularity, leading to a total of six episodes of ‘Sinsun Delivery’ so far.
The first episode of the series featured the clear sound of a wooden fish at Naksansa Temple in celebration of Buddha’s Birthday. The second episode showed Agroland Taeshin Ranch, Seosan Ranch fields, and Sambeong Beach in Dangjin, Chungnam, along with a cart chrysanthemum field and seaside caves under a calm sunset.
The third episode visited Miin Waterfall, known as Pokari Waterfall in Samcheok, presenting refreshing waterfall footage suitable for a summer resort. Episodes four and five climbed to the rooftop of the 123-story Lotte World Tower, showcasing not only the surroundings such as Jamsil Baseball Stadium and COEX but also areas southward including Bundang, Pangyo, and even the POSCO Tower in Incheon in the distance.
‘Sinsun Delivery’ can be accessed via the travel channel within ‘Jump VR’ when using a VR headset, and on smartphones through the 5G ‘Jump VR’ app.
Kim Changhyun, the SK Telecom manager who produced the video, said, “The sight of Dokdo rising majestically from the vast sea was grand,” adding, “We will continue to strive to capture hidden travel spots across the country with 360-degree cameras.”
