Yeongdeungpo-gu Conducts Major Cleanup of Facilities to Restore Damage from Anyangcheon and Dorimcheon Rivers
Residents and Officials Join Forces to Clean Anyangcheon Trail and Sports Facilities... Over 180 Participants Including Volunteer Disaster Prevention Group, Sports Association, and Volunteers Show Remarkable Voluntary Participation
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chae Hyun-il) has launched a thorough cleaning of the walking trails and facilities to restore the damage caused by the longest-lasting heavy rain in history that flooded Anyangcheon and Dorimcheon.
During the two days of the 10th and 11th, with heavy rain reaching 137mm and increased discharge from Paldang Dam, Dorimcheon was flooded along its entire length, and the water level of Anyangcheon also rose, flooding most of the walking trails and bicycle paths from the Han River confluence to Mokdonggyo Bridge.
The district explained that starting from the 11th, as the monsoon entered a lull and the rainwater that had filled Anyangcheon and Dorimcheon drained away, they quickly removed various trash and a large amount of sediment accumulated on the walking trails, and promoted this major cleaning to prevent additional damage by pre-inspecting safety hazards.
A total of about 180 people participated in this restoration work, including ▲about 30 members of the Yeongdeungpo-gu Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps ▲about 20 members of the Yeongdeungpo-gu Sports Association ▲about 20 volunteers, local residents, and affiliated public officials. Members of the National Assembly Kim Young-joo and Kim Min-seok, City Council members Choi Woong-sik and Yang Min-gyu, Yeongdeungpo-gu Council Chairman Ko Gi-pan, and 11 other district council members also joined to lend their support.
The cleaning began at 9 a.m. on the 13th, gathering at the riverside under Omokgyo Bridge, where a brief plan for the cleaning schedule was shared before starting the full-scale restoration work.
The restoration work focused mainly on three areas: ▲the foot volleyball court and gateball court under Omokgyo Bridge ▲the area around the inline skating rink ▲the area from under Sinjeonggyo Bridge to the inline skating rink, where trash collection and water cleaning were conducted intensively. Cleaning work was also carried out simultaneously by a specialized mud removal company.
The work lasted about two hours, and to increase cleaning efficiency and enable rapid maintenance, cleaning equipment such as four water trucks, three cleaning vehicles, skid loaders, and dump trucks were generously deployed.
Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Chae Hyun-il also participated with volunteers, collecting trash and removing mud accumulated on sports facilities and walking trails, cleaning every corner. After finishing the cleaning work, he toured the Sinjeonggyo section and Dorimcheon area with staff to directly check the flood damage and urged prompt restoration.
During this monsoon period, the district operated a 24-hour disaster situation room and activated an emergency contact system, running a heavy rain field task force to ensure regular patrols and rapid on-site dispatch to vulnerable construction sites prone to flood damage.
In addition, they conducted a comprehensive inspection of vulnerable facilities such as vacant houses, abandoned houses, and construction sites in the Dangsan-dong area, making every effort to prepare safety measures against disaster accidents.
