Gwanak-gu, Electronic Notification Service for Traffic Violation Fine Notices
From September, conveniently receive notifications and make payments via text message (MMS) and KakaoTalk AlimTalk
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Junhee) will launch a mobile electronic notification service from September that allows residents to receive and pay traffic violation fines via smartphone in one go, keeping pace with the contactless era brought on by COVID-19.
The existing registered mail method often resulted in loss or return due to moving or absence, causing many to miss out on benefits such as a 20% reduction for voluntary payment, or exemptions and reductions of fines due to unavoidable reasons.
Accordingly, the district is promoting an electronic fine notification service that allows anyone with a smartphone registered in their name to receive notifications via text message (MMS) or KakaoTalk AlimTalk without any separate application or app installation.
Parking violation fine notices, which were previously sent by registered mail, will now be sent to smartphones so residents can receive guidance and make payments more conveniently.
The ‘Mobile Electronic Notification Service’ enables users to conveniently check the actual mobile notification in real time after receiving the mobile notice and completing identity verification.
Additionally, the linked Seoul City mobile tax payment app (STAX) allows users to easily proceed to payment in one step after viewing the notification information.
AlimTalk notifications are first sent to taxpayers registered with KakaoPay, and for those not registered or who do not check the AlimTalk notification, a second automatic ‘alert message’ is sent after 24 hours.
Subsequently, the district will send a third registered mail notification to taxpayers who do not even check the alert message, minimizing issues and complaints related to fine payments.
Starting in September, in line with the service’s purpose, registered mail will not be sent to taxpayers who have confirmed the mobile notification, reducing budget and administrative resource waste.
