Samsung C&T "Awarded Highest Grade in Quality Evaluation System by Singapore Building and Construction Authority"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Samsung C&T announced on the 12th that the State Courts building in Singapore, constructed by its construction division, received the highest 'STAR' rating under the CONQUAS quality assessment system of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore.
CONQUAS is a building quality evaluation system introduced by the Singapore government in 1989. It assesses three areas: architecture, structure, and mechanical & electrical systems. A final evaluation score exceeding 95 points grants the highest STAR rating.
The State Courts building constructed by Samsung C&T is the tallest public building in Singapore, located near Chinatown in downtown Singapore, with a maximum height of 35 floors and 186 meters. It consists of two buildings: the courtroom block and the judiciary office block, featuring an exterior design that evokes the feel of a large library.
Samsung C&T explained that the project was challenging due to the installation of 2,700 concrete exterior panels weighing between 2.5 tons and 6 tons on the court’s outer walls, and the construction of 39 connecting corridors between the two buildings. The location in the heart of the complex downtown area also made construction difficult, but the company smoothly resolved issues through active communication with stakeholders.
A Samsung C&T official said, "Our quality management efforts were recognized in Singapore, where quality standards are very strict," adding, "This achievement will provide advantageous conditions when participating in projects not only in Singapore but also in countries such as the UK, Hong Kong, Australia, and Malaysia, which benchmark CONQUAS for quality management."
