Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation Hosts Online Classic and Gugak Festival

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation announced on the 11th that it will hold the 6th classical and gugak festival of this year’s 'Yesulsesang Village Project' online.

As part of the 'Yesulsesang Village Project' conducted in collaboration with the Korea National University of Arts, the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation set the theme of this festival as 'Distant Distance, United Sound' and plans to provide the festival performance videos online.

First, the 'Gyechon Village Classical Street Festival' will run from the 16th of this month to the 4th of next month, and the 'Dongpyeonje Village Gugak Street Festival' will be held from the 6th to the 25th of next month. The opening performances of each festival will be concerts held on-site in the village with audiences selected through prior online applications, and these performances will be broadcast live via Naver LIVE. Starting with the opening performances, about 40 various classical and gugak performance contents will be produced as VOD videos and released through the online platform 'Yesulsesang TV'.

The opening performance of the 'Gyechon Village Classical Street Festival,' scheduled to be broadcast live on the 16th, will be hosted by ambassador Daniel Lindemann and Professor Hong Seung-chan of the Korea National University of Arts. The fantastic classical harmony of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and world-renowned pianist Professor Son Min-su will resonate both in Gyechon Village and online. The Dongpyeonje Village Gugak Street Festival, held on the 6th of next month, will also be broadcast live, featuring performances by gugak stars such as master singers Ahn Sook-sun and Kim Young-im, singer Song Ga-in from Miss Trot, and gugak girl Song So-hee.

Gwon Oh-gyu, chairman of the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation, said, "Although it is regrettable that this year’s event is held online, there is an advantage that more people can enjoy it," and added, "We ask for much anticipation and interest in the new performances."
