Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education Selects 13 Schools for 'Excellence in School Meals' in COVID-19 Response
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced the selection of 13 outstanding schools that made efforts to provide safe school meals to students amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The 13 outstanding schools for school meals include ▲ five elementary schools: Daegu Yulwon Elementary, Dongcheon Elementary, Sasu Elementary, Dongin Elementary, and Munseong Elementary ▲ five middle schools: Daegu Dongbu Middle, Gangdong Middle, Gyeongil Middle, Daegu Middle, and Nobyeon Middle ▲ and three high schools: Gyeongbuk Girls' High School, Daegu Il Science High School, and Daegu Il Meister High School.
According to the Office of Education, 78 out of 424 directly managed school meal schools applied for this outstanding school selection contest, showing high interest. Each school made their best efforts such as installing partitions for meals, operating assigned seating systems, guiding dining etiquette, prohibiting conversation during meals, and requiring personal utensils and water bottles. Among them, schools that were particularly excellent not only in basic quarantine measures but also in active participation and utilization by school members were selected.
Dongbu Middle School stood out for operating a meal TF team from the early stages of COVID-19 and managing the '5th period + lunch time package.' By including lunch time within the 5th period class time, the teacher in charge of the 5th period supervised the meal, encouraging students to practice social distancing.
Yulwon Elementary provided music (mainly quiet classical music) during lunch time to help stabilize the minds and bodies of students who were affected by the changed dining environment, Sasu Elementary was evaluated for conducting practical quarantine activities through flexible meal provision according to the number of students. The excellent cases of the selected schools can be found on the Office of Education’s website and YouTube channel.
