Expansion and Opening of Changwon Gusan-myeon Simri~Nanpo-ri Section... "Reduced Travel Time"

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 10th that the 3.8 km section from Sim-ri, Gusan-myeon, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam to Nanpo-ri on National Road No. 5 'Geoje-Masan' section (12.9 km) will open at 5 p.m. on the 13th.
This opening completes the 'Geoje-Masan Section 2' project (6.5 km), which replaces the existing 2-lane road with poor alignment passing through residential areas with a newly constructed 4-lane road (20 m wide). Since construction began in July 2012, a total of 195 billion KRW has been invested over more than eight years.
The newly opened road is connected to the Gusan-myeon Nanpo-ri to Seokgok-ri road (5.1 km), which was opened early and has been in operation since last September, shortening the travel distance by 2.3 km (from 11.2 km to 8.9 km) and reducing travel time by 8 minutes (from 15 minutes to 7 minutes).
The 'Geoje-Masan Section 3' (4.0 km), which connects to this section, is also under construction and is scheduled to open by the end of December this year.
Once this section opens, the travel distance on National Road No. 5 will be reduced by 6.6 km (from 19.5 km to 12.9 km), and travel time will be shortened by 20 minutes (from 30 minutes to 10 minutes).
Through this, traffic congestion will be alleviated, improving the living conditions of local residents, and it is expected to greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy due to increased nearby tourism demand.
