Japan's Daily New COVID-19 Cases Near 1,600... Highest in a Week (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] On the 7th, Japan recorded the highest number of new daily confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to NHK on that day, the number of new confirmed cases announced by local governments nationwide (as of 6:30 PM) totaled 1,584, including 462 in Tokyo and 255 in Osaka.
This surpassed the previous highest daily record of 1,580 cases set on the 31st of last month, breaking the record within a week.
Since Japan's daily COVID-19 confirmed cases are announced by local governments, the final tally for the day is expected to be much higher than this.
Japan's daily confirmed cases first exceeded 1,000 on the 29th of last month and maintained a range of 1,200 to 1,500 cases for five consecutive days.
Then, on the 3rd, the number dropped to the 960 range but rose back above 1,000 from the 4th and has been increasing daily since.
