[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Samsung Group announced on the 7th that it has decided to donate 3 billion KRW to the Korean Red Cross to support the recovery of areas affected by the prolonged heavy rains.
Thirteen affiliates participated in this heavy rain damage recovery support, including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Samsung Card, Samsung Securities, Cheil Worldwide, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung C&T, Samsung Engineering, S-1, and Samsung SDS.
In addition to the donation, Samsung plans to visit the sites to comfort the affected residents and assist in recovery by providing ▲ free inspection special services for water-damaged electronic products ▲ support with mobile laundry vehicles ▲ support with Love Meal Trucks ▲ heavy equipment support in flood-affected areas ▲ and on-site medical support by the Samsung Medical Volunteer Group.
Since the heavy rains began last month, Samsung Electronics Service has been conducting special flood recovery services such as cleaning and free inspection of water-damaged home appliances in areas affected by the heavy rains, including Busan, Ulsan, and Daejeon. Especially in Daejeon and some parts of Gyeonggi Province, where damage was concentrated, special service teams have been dispatched on-site to provide focused support.
Samsung Electronics is also dispatching the disaster relief mobile laundry vehicle called the 'Warm Sharing Laundry' to the affected areas to support the washing and drying of clothes and bedding for residents affected by the heavy rains, and plans to send the 'Love Meal Truck' to provide meals on-site.
Furthermore, the Samsung Medical Volunteer Group will dispatch medical staff such as doctors and nurses to the area to check the health of residents and provide medical support. Since 2006, Samsung has operated the Samsung Medical Volunteer Group to provide systematic and prompt medical support whenever disasters such as floods or earthquakes occur.
In addition, Samsung C&T has decided to dispatch construction heavy equipment such as excavators, dump trucks, and cranes to the site for early recovery of the damage.
Previously, more than 1,400 emergency relief kits donated by Samsung were delivered to the affected areas through the Korean Red Cross. Since 2005, Samsung Electronics has annually donated disaster preparedness emergency relief kits consisting of blankets, relief clothing, towels, and soap to the Korean Red Cross to ensure that relief supplies can be delivered to affected residents as quickly as possible when disasters occur.
Meanwhile, Samsung has not spared swift support whenever disasters occur domestically. In February, as part of social efforts to overcome the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Samsung donated 30 billion KRW in relief funds and supplies and purchased 30 billion KRW worth of Onnuri gift certificates to distribute to partner companies to help stimulate the domestic economy.
