Mokpo City Develops Pedestrian Convenience Facilities on Gohado
Secured 1.1 Billion Special Grants, Improved Access for Mobility-Impaired on Marine Deck Walkway
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo City has gained momentum in advancing its pending projects by securing 1.1 billion KRW in special grants.
According to Mokpo City on the 6th, despite the difficult financial conditions caused by the unexpected COVID-19 situation, the city has urgently injected 20 billion KRW of city funds to smoothly carry out urgent projects.
So far, the city has frequently visited the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to explain the necessity and validity of pending projects and, together with local political circles, has made every effort to secure government financial support, resulting in the acquisition of this special grant.
The city plans to use the special grant to improve access for vulnerable pedestrians on the Gohado Sea Deck. The Gohado Sea Deck (length 1080m), completed in November last year, attracts about 2,000 visitors daily, but its entrance is a steep staircase, causing inconvenience for pedestrians.
Accordingly, the city intends to use the secured special grant to improve the walking environment for vulnerable pedestrians and install a pedestrian bridge and elevator to secure emergency exits. In addition, the city plans to complete an additional 800m extension of the sea deck by the first half of next year.
Kim Jong-sik, Mayor of Mokpo City, said, “I thank the local members of the National Assembly who actively supported the region,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to secure national funds through communication and cooperation so that major projects proceed without setbacks.”
