[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Heo Seok, mayor of Suncheon City, has recently been showing an active stance by visiting the National Assembly to ensure the smooth progress of major projects such as attracting a medical school to the eastern region of Jeollanam-do, operating the Honam Vocational Experience Center, and hosting the 2021 Nexpo in Suncheon.
On the 3rd, Mayor Heo held the opening ceremony of the ‘Suncheon Communication Room’ together with National Assembly member So Byung-chul at Room 928 in the National Assembly Members' Office Building (So Byung-chul’s office).
The ‘Suncheon Communication Room’ was created at the suggestion of Assemblyman So Byung-chul. It serves as a communication space where Suncheon citizens and public officials visiting the National Assembly can comfortably conduct their work and freely discuss regional issues.
Since a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker was elected in Suncheon for the first time in 10 years, Suncheon City expects to regularize party-government policy consultations and gain momentum in discovering policies for citizens and promoting national fund projects through working-level meetings.
The opening ceremony of the Suncheon Communication Room was especially meaningful as many city and provincial assembly members, regardless of party affiliation, joined together as one with Suncheon City.
Mayor Heo said, “The establishment of a communication room for public officials and local residents in the National Assembly Members' Office Building is the first case within the National Assembly, and it reflects Assemblyman So Byung-chul’s sincere affection for the citizens.” He added, “If the National Assembly and the region become ONE TEAM and cooperate, there is nothing we cannot achieve,” signaling a positive outlook for regional issues and securing national funding.
Assemblyman So Byung-chul stated, “There was always a regret that there was no comfortable space for public officials, city and provincial assembly members, and local residents visiting the National Assembly to rest, so I am very pleased that a small but dedicated space has been created for them through the opening of the Suncheon Communication Room.”
On the same day, Mayor Heo met consecutively with Assemblymen So Byung-chul, Seo Dong-yong, and Shin Jeong-hoon to request close cooperation on major national fund-supported projects in 2021, including ▲ establishment of Suncheon University Medical School and University Hospital ▲ operation and management of the Honam Vocational Experience Center ▲ hosting of the 2021 Nexpo in Suncheon.
