Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education Establishes Basic Plan for 'Climate Crisis Response Education Center'

The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 4th that it has established a basic plan for the establishment of the "Climate Crisis Response Education Center." This center will be a facility where students can receive systematic education on climate, environment, and life, and is one of the key projects of the city education office.
Existing environmental education has been mainly focused on kindergarten and elementary school students, and sufficient education has not been provided for middle and high school students. The selection rate of environmental subjects among middle and high school students has also continuously decreased, reaching only 8.4% in 2018. Moreover, experiential spaces were insufficient. Considering this situation, the center is being promoted as a hub space for education tailored to middle and high school students.
The center, with a total project cost of 5 billion KRW and scheduled to open in March 2022, will be located at the site of the "Ganjeolgot Haeoreum Camping Ground" in Seosaeng-myeon, Ulju-gun, which is currently operated using a closed school.

No Okhee, Superintendent of Ulsan Education, said, "The city education office is promoting a major shift to sustainable ecological and environmental education for the future," and added, "The Climate Crisis Response Education Center will develop problem-solving skills through experience-centered ecological and environmental education and will also be used as a venue for citizen environmental education."
