Yongin Mayor Baek Goon-gi Proposes Declaration of Baekam and Wonsam-myeon as Special Disaster Areas
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Baek Gun-gi, mayor of Yongin City, has requested Gyeonggi Province and the central government to declare Wonsam-myeon and Baekam-myeon, areas severely damaged by heavy rain, as special disaster zones.
On the 4th, regarding support for recovery from the damage caused by the recent record-breaking heavy rain in Wonsam and Baekam-myeon, Mayor Baek stated, "After inspecting the site for three days and confirming the tremendous damage, I judged that active government support is necessary and requested the declaration of a special disaster zone."
These two areas experienced record-breaking rainfall starting from the 2nd, with 447mm in Wonsam-myeon and 303.5mm in Baekam-myeon. As a result, landslides occurred in various places, and the Cheongmi Stream overflowed, causing large-scale damage. As of the 3rd, the damage amounted to 2 billion KRW in Wonsam-myeon, 2.7 billion KRW in Baekam-myeon, and 1.5 billion KRW in other areas, totaling 6.2 billion KRW.
In these two areas, 49 households became disaster victims, including 10 households in Wonsam-myeon and 39 households in Baekam-myeon. Approximately 500 hectares of farmland were flooded, and 21 roads were damaged.
Additionally, the Gangnim Apartment in Baekam-myeon was flooded up to the first floor, and many houses and pensions in the Wonsam and Baekam areas had their access roads blocked or flooded due to soil erosion.
