Gimhae City to Introduce 6,000 Eco-Friendly Vehicles by 2025
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 4th that it will reduce internal combustion engine vehicles in the public and mass transportation sectors and expand the supply of future eco-friendly vehicles such as electric and hydrogen vehicles by 2025.
The expansion of future vehicle supply is part of the 'Gimhae-type Green New Deal Project,' aiming to supply 6,125 eco-friendly vehicles over the next five years.
The types of vehicles to be introduced include 4,600 electric passenger cars, 1,290 hydrogen passenger cars, 160 electric buses, 60 electric taxis, and 15 hydrogen buses.
To this end, all newly purchased or leased public sector vehicles by the city will be 100% eco-friendly vehicles such as electric and hydrogen cars.
Public vehicles of city-affiliated organizations will also be mandatorily converted to future vehicles, and 10 electric buses for mass transportation will operate from October within this year.
Three hydrogen buses will be introduced in the first half of next year. Starting next year, internal combustion engine city buses that are retired will be replaced only with electric or hydrogen buses, with the plan to convert all to eco-friendly vehicles by 2030.
For taxis, priority support qualifications will be granted when converting to eco-friendly vehicles.
In the private sector, early retirement of old diesel vehicles and conversion to electric or hydrogen taxis will receive priority support, and the city plans to build 250 public rapid electric chargers by 2025 to promote the supply of electric and hydrogen vehicles.
Hydrogen charging stations will start with the currently under-construction Gimhae hydrogen charging station and will be expanded by region to solve charging issues.
Additionally, construction machinery such as forklifts and excavators will have their engines replaced and be equipped with diesel particulate filters (DPF), and children's school vehicles will be converted to eco-friendly vehicles by switching to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Mayor Heo Seong-gon of Gimhae said, "Through the Gimhae-type Green New Deal policy, we will create a city safe from greenhouse gases and fine dust."
