Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok Issues Special Order for Comprehensive Inspection of Landslide-Prone Areas
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, has issued a special directive for a comprehensive inspection of 2,361 landslide-prone areas.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 3rd, from that day until the 6th, a joint inspection with city and county officials has begun to prepare for landslides caused by typhoons and heavy rain.
To this end, emergency measures such as drainage maintenance at collapse-risk facilities during heavy rain have been carried out, and in the event of a situation, the Landslide Site Prevention Team (province and 22 cities/counties, 52 members) will be permanently deployed in vulnerable areas centered on residential zones to intensively manage hazardous facilities and promptly restore damaged sites.
During the comprehensive landslide countermeasure period, the province has established an emergency response system for accident prevention, including weather forecast notifications for users of forest recreational facilities, announcements advising against camping in valleys and reckless mountain hiking, and enforcement activities.

Park Hyun-sik, Head of the Eastern Regional Headquarters of Jeonnam Province, said, “Sudden water surges on slopes, underground water that previously flowed well suddenly stopping, and trees shaking violently in mountainous areas without wind are signs of impending landslides.” He added, “In case of disasters such as landslides, local residents should quickly evacuate to safe places and immediately report to 119 or the city/county disaster situation room.”
