According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 3rd, the Chungcheong area experienced heavy rain with a maximum hourly rainfall of up to 80mm. In particular, cumulative rainfall since the 1st recorded 177mm in Cheonan, 164mm in Asan, and 107mm at Wonhyobong in Yesan.
With heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, the risk of river flooding is rising in Chungnam and Sejong. On the afternoon of the same day, Asan City in Chungnam warned residents in Mildu 1 and 2-ri, Sindong, and Mojong-dong areas near Milducheon in Inju-myeon to evacuate to nearby schools and higher ground due to concerns over flooding.
Cheonan City also issued evacuation orders as the water levels of Byeongcheoncheon and Ssangjeongcheon rose sharply. Currently, water levels in Asancheon and Onyangcheon in Chungnam are also rising, raising concerns about possible river flooding.
The Geumgang Flood Control Office issued a flood advisory at 2:40 p.m. on the same day for the Sapgyocheon Yesan Bridge and Asan Chungmu Bridge points, urging residents in downstream areas to evacuate to safe locations.
Accordingly, Yesan County evacuated residents near the Sucheolli reservoir, which is at high risk of flooding, to the Yesan Electronic Technical High School Gymnasium and issued evacuation orders (via text messages) to residents in flooded urban areas.
In Sejong, residents of Daegok-ri in Somyeong-myeon evacuated to the nearby township office and elementary school. This was due to the rising water level of Maenggokcheon near Daegok-ri, which was judged to potentially cause flooding in the city. Somjeong-myeon recorded about 100mm of rain just in the morning of the 3rd.
