[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] An 'online free discussion system' reflecting public opinion will be established targeting the fields of 'Artificial Intelligence (AI)' and 'Grid Computing' to formulate research and development (R&D) investment strategies for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 3rd that it will pilot the use of 'jamming,' an online free discussion system, in the annual 'SME Technology Roadmap' established for strategic technology development of SMEs.

The pilot operation of jamming in the AI and Grid Computing fields is a follow-up measure based on the results of the national technology demand survey conducted by the Ministry from March to April. Rapid achievement of outcomes is expected through demand-driven strategic product development presented in last year's SME Technology Roadmap.

The SME Technology Roadmap comprehensively analyzes the latest technology development trends to select promising technologies and strategic products with high development needs. It serves as a guideline for the investment strategy direction of SME R&D. Jamming is a method used by IBM for future technology forecasting. It is a form of open online brainstorming where participants freely discuss issues related to promising technologies to find solutions.

The Ministry plans to reflect the opinions of the general public as demanders in the AI and Grid Computing fields, which have high interest from the industry and the public, moving away from the previous method of analyzing market trends centered on companies and experts. Grid Computing refers to connecting different types of computers via long-distance communication networks to form a virtual large-scale high-performance computer, performing advanced computational tasks or large-scale processing.

The Ministry will pilot jamming from the 4th to the 6th through the SME Technology Roadmap website. It will be operated under the guidance of experts in related fields, and anyone interested can participate. During the three-day discussion period, free discussions on related topics will be held on days 1 and 2. On the 3rd day, focused discussions on promising SME technologies and products will be conducted, followed by big data analysis of keywords and correlations to select candidates for strategic products.

Cho Heesoo, Director of the Technology Policy Division at the Ministry, said, "By introducing jamming with public participation, we expect rapid results such as increased sales for SMEs through technology development and commercialization reflecting demanders' opinions." He added, "We plan to analyze the results of this pilot operation and expand its implementation."
