View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) has launched an emergency operation to respond to simultaneous damages such as track washouts and sediment inflows caused by heavy rain.
According to KORAIL, heavy rain that fell on the morning of the 2nd in regions including Gangwon, Chungcheong, and northern Gyeongbuk caused flooding and sediment inflow on the tracks between Samtan and Gongjeon stations on the Chungbuk Line.
Additionally, sediment inflow occurred between Ipseok-ri and Ssangryong stations on the Taebaek Line, between Hyeondong and Buncheon stations on the Yeongdong Line, and between Yeonggyo and Guhak stations on the Jungang Line.
As a result, train operations on the entire sections of the Chungbuk Line (Daejeon to Jecheon Station) and the Taebaek Line (Jecheon to Donghae Station) have been suspended since 6 a.m.
Train operations on the Yeongdong Line between Yeongju and Donghae Station have been suspended since 8 a.m., and on the Jungang Line between Wonju and Yeongju Station since 9:30 a.m.
KORAIL’s president, regional headquarters chiefs, and over 400 executives of grade 2 or higher nationwide have entered emergency duty.
They are working to assess the damage situation while providing customer guidance, adjusting train operations, and restoring tracks. Executives are also holding emergency disaster countermeasure meetings and are fully committed to recovery efforts.
