Due to the impact of COVID-19, no separate celebratory event was held on the day of the plaque unveiling ceremony.
The Korea Fiscal Information Service opened near Seoul Station on July 1, 2016, and manages the entire computerized process of disbursement, use, and settlement of approximately 86.7 trillion won annually (based on the main budget) in national treasury subsidies. It also educates about 360,000 users of the system on how to use the system and methods for transparent management of national treasury subsidies.
The Gwangju regional office of the Korea Fiscal Information Service is located on the 30th floor of the Kumho Life Building in Yangdong, Seo-gu, and conducts about 200 training sessions annually (with 70 participants per session) for public officials responsible for national treasury subsidies and private subsidy project operators from metropolitan and local governments in the southwestern region of the country, including Gwangju, Jeonnam, Jeonbuk, Jeju, and the western part of Gyeongnam, teaching them how to use the ‘Integrated Management System for National Treasury Subsidies.’
Since its opening on the 17th, it has been in pilot operation and officially started full operation with the plaque unveiling ceremony on this day.
The regional office of the Korea Fiscal Information Service is the second after the Daejeon regional office, which opened on the 1st, and was established through active efforts by Gwangju City to attract it.
The city expects significant economic ripple effects in the food service and tourism sectors as about 14,000 trainees visit Gwangju due to the establishment of the Gwangju regional office.
Additionally, the city sees it as a great help in revitalizing the old downtown area (near Yangdong Market), which has been suffering greatly from urban hollowing and the impact of COVID-19.
Kim Jae-hoon, President of the Korea Fiscal Information Service, said, “We thank Gwangju City for their great help in establishing the Gwangju regional office, and the Seoul headquarters will actively support expanding its role as a southwestern regional education center.”
