Kim Eun-hye, spokesperson for the United Future Party, held a briefing at the National Assembly Communication Office in the morning and stated, "As the opposition party, this is to uncover the truth and respond to the demands of the people."
This special committee, formed under the Emergency Committee, will be chaired by United Future Party lawmaker Kim Jeong-jae and consist of a total of 12 members, including 11 members. Except for one, all members will be female lawmakers. It will focus on healing sexual violence victims and establishing legislation to eradicate sexual violence. It is separate from the previously formed task force (TF) related to former Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don's sexual harassment case.
Spokesperson Kim explained, "Recently, sexual violence against women and sexual crimes by hierarchical power have been frequently witnessed," adding, "It is a field-oriented, victim-centered approach to ensure that victims are not alone."
He said, "The events that occurred in Seoul City are quietly ignored as if nothing happened, but we will break this silence," and added, "The late President Kim Dae-jung said, 'Silence and indifference may be one side of evil,' so we will stand with the victims to avoid becoming accomplices by indifference or silence."
