Jung Eui-sun's Reform Personnel Changes... 'Selection of Global Leaders and Future Talents'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The executive personnel reshuffle conducted by Hyundai Motor Group on the 29th can be summarized as 'appointment of global and future leaders' and 'reward and punishment based on performance.' It is seen as a strategic move to overcome the global crisis caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and prepare for the future, reflecting the strong will of Vice Chairman Euisun Chung.
The appointment of a global leader is exemplified by Lee Yong-woo, the newly appointed president of Innocean, who was the only executive promoted to president in this reshuffle. President Lee has been recognized for his global business capabilities through his roles as head of Hyundai Motor's Genesis Division, head of the North America region, and head of the Brazil subsidiary. Additionally, having served as head of Innocean's Americas headquarters, he is highly regarded for his understanding of both global strategy and Innocean's business. With President Lee's appointment as CEO of Innocean, the vacant position of head of the Genesis Division will be taken over by Vice President Jang Jae-hoon of Hyundai Motor. Vice President Jang has expanded his influence within the company by concurrently holding the positions of head of the Management Support Division, head of the Domestic Business Division, and now head of the Genesis Division.
As a future talent, Song Mi-young has been appointed as the new head of the Talent Development Center. Director Song, born in 1976, is a female executive who has served as head of Hyundai Motor's Leadership Development Office and leader of Talent Development Team 1. She was promoted to director last year. Internally, she is evaluated as possessing specialized knowledge in talent development and diverse practical experience.
The pinnacle of reward and punishment based on performance was carried out in the personnel reshuffle at Hyundai Steel, which has recently experienced poor performance. All four heads of business divisions within the Sales Headquarters, including Ham Young-chul, Executive Director and head of Sales Headquarters, as well as the Plate Business Division, Construction Steel Business Division, Energy Shipbuilding Business Division, and Marketing Business Division, were replaced. The new head of Sales Headquarters will be Lee Jae-hwan, Executive Director and head of Business Innovation (BI) at Hyundai Engineering. Kim Kyung-seok, Director and head of the Marketing Business Division, was newly appointed as head of the Plate Business Division, which was renamed from the Steel Materials Business Division. The Construction Steel Business Division will be led by Choi Young-mo, Director and Ulsan Plant Manager; the Energy Shipbuilding Business Division by Kim Jeong-han, Director and head of the Construction Steel Business Division; and the Marketing Business Division and Special Steel Sales by Yang Hee-seok, Director and head of the Steel Materials Business Division. Additionally, the Technical Sales Office will be abolished, and its personnel will be reassigned within each sales business division as part of an organizational restructuring aimed at strengthening on-site, close customer sales.

Since solidifying the 'Euisun Chung regime' in September 2018, the generational change has accelerated and is also a key theme of this personnel reshuffle. President Han Sung-kwon, who led Hyundai Motor's commercial vehicle division since 2016, and President Ahn Gun-hee, who led Innocean for 11 years, have been appointed as advisors. Cha In-kyu, Vice President and head of Hyundai Motor Group's Talent Development Center, has also been appointed as an advisor.
