Muan-gun's 50-Year Wish Fulfilled, Opening of Yeongsangang-Seungdalsan Meeting Trail
Expectations for Regional Tourism Revitalization and Growth Engine Creation with Road Completion
Winding Road at 30 km/h... Enjoying Slowness and Leisure
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 30th that it has completed the construction of the Yeongsangang~Seungdalsan Meeting Road, which received 17.9 billion KRW in national funding over four years, and officially opened it on the 27th.
This road has a width of 8 meters and stretches a total of 8.7 km from Cheongsu-ri, Cheonggye-myeon (National Road No. 1) to Daechi-ri, Mongtan-myeon (County Road No. 34). It consists of a newly constructed section of 4.1 km, a realignment section of 0.5 km, an ecological passageway of 70 meters, and six rest park areas.
The Meeting Road has been a 50-year aspiration of Muan-gun and is expected to serve not only as a symbol of communication and cooperation between the two regions of Mongtan and Cheonggye-myeon but also as a transportation and logistics hub connecting the township, agricultural and industrial complexes, and Mokpo National University. Additionally, it will function as a green tourism belt linking the Seungdalsan hiking trail, Yeongsangang riverside road, Buncheong pottery master exhibition hall, Sigyeongjeong Pavilion, and Neureoji Korean Peninsula Park.
Tourists and road users can enjoy a leisurely pace while driving along the winding road with a speed limit of 30 km/h, where rest areas and pavilions are placed intermittently.
Moreover, this road is the only place where visitors can experience the atmosphere of Gangwon Province, offering tourists spaces to stay and reflect in first-class ecological forests connected to nearby hiking trails.
Muan-gun plans to utilize this road as a nature-friendly, green experience road by introducing various unique programs such as a barefoot acupressure path, forest ecological park, wild plant exploration trail, medicinal herb garden, and a firefly star-gazing forest along the Meeting Road.
A Muan-gun official stated, “In the future, we plan to introduce various experiential tourism programs such as hiking, walking, cycling, trekking, marathons, and auto camping linked to Yeongsangang, Seungdalsan, and the tidal flat coast. The Meeting Road is expected to create a new tourism foundation for our county as the only domestic tourist attraction where one can experience river, mountain, and sea all in one day.”
Meanwhile, along with the Yeongsangang~Seungdalsan Meeting Road, the Noeul-gil (Sunset Road), constructed as a coastal tourism loop road with 100% national funding under the Muan-gun Development Promotion District project, is scheduled to be completed early next month.
