Dow Commercializes Film Packaging Resin with Enhanced Recyclability
Compared to conventional PE film, turbidity below 80%
Tensile modulus increased 2-3 times
Commercialization after 10 years of research...Advancing eco-friendly material commercialization
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Dow announced on the 30th that it has launched ‘INNATE™ TF Polyethylene Resin,’ which will dramatically improve the recyclability of plastic packaging.
This expands Dow’s high-performance packaging resin brand ‘INNATE™’ product lineup. Polyethylene films made with this product (TF-BOPE films) have superior physical properties compared to conventional polyethylene (PE) films, allowing packaging to be made from a single material or the overall film thickness to be reduced, presenting an opportunity for eco-friendly packaging.
In addition, compared to existing PE films, the haze is reduced to less than 80%, enhancing visual effects, and impact strength and tensile modulus are reinforced from 2 to up to 3 times compared to conventional PE film lines. It also has excellent tear resistance, so printed areas do not crack or break even at low temperatures.
Dow invested over 10 years of continuous research and development efforts to launch this ‘TF-BOPE’ film. Based on R&D capabilities that surpass the limitations of existing PE packaging materials, Dow developed and introduced the ‘TF-BOPE’ film line in 2017, which has won awards such as the Edison Award Gold, R&D 100 Awards, and the Ringier Technology Innovation Award.
Kodak Xiao, Marketing Director for Food and Specialty Packaging in the Asia-Pacific region at Dow’s Packaging and Specialty Plastics division, said, “As a leading company in the packaging industry, Dow looks forward to collaborating with various industry stakeholders to develop innovative and sustainable packaging solutions. The down-gauging and high recyclability of the new ‘INNATE™ TF Polyethylene Resin’ provide answers to the plastic waste problem, enabling the packaging market to achieve more future-oriented development.”
