[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, expressed his views on major political issues including measures to eradicate real estate speculation, former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk's plan to file a damages lawsuit against media outlets that made false or exaggerated reports about him, and the conflict between Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae and Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl over the so-called 'prosecutor-media collusion' investigation.
On the 29th, Lee appeared on the YouTube channel 'Park Siyoung TV' and stated regarding measures to eradicate real estate speculation, "There should be no reason to own property other than the house where one actually lives," and argued, "Unearned income from real estate should be fully reclaimed from non-occupants."
He emphasized, "An effective (real estate speculation prevention) policy is to prevent benefits for vested interests," adding, "People never buy real estate if they would incur losses or gain no profit."
Regarding the Future United Party's policy to supply 1 million housing units in Seoul as part of real estate stabilization measures, he pointed out, "(If that happens) traditional residential areas will all die," and warned, "If new sites are continuously developed and supplied, the old city areas will be completely ruined."
On former Minister Cho's announcement to file civil damages lawsuits against some media outlets, he said, "I feel a sense of camaraderie with what former Minister Cho has suffered and is currently doing," and added, "He is doing well with the lawsuits. I want to applaud him."
He also stated, "I am one of the people who suffered the most from abnormal prosecution," emphasizing, "A group that holds power over life and death must be subject to democratic control."
Regarding the conflict between Minister Chu and Prosecutor General Yoon, he evaluated, "It is important not to exercise power arbitrarily, and in that respect, Minister Chu is making efforts."

He further said, "In the United States, residents directly elect prosecutors," and expressed hope that "prosecution work be conducted at the local prosecutor's office level and that chief prosecutors be elected directly by residents."
