Nowon-gu, Small-Scale Touring Busking Performances Receive Positive Response from Residents
Busking Concerts Held Every Friday and Saturday Until September at Major Outdoor Venues... Featuring Diverse Genres Including Jazz, Gugak, Dance, Mime, and Magic by Professional Artists
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is gaining positive responses from residents through small-scale touring busking performances that break away from the traditional format to revitalize cultural performances stagnated by COVID-19.
The outdoor touring performances, held under the title "Our Neighborhood Concert, Busking Concert," serve two purposes. In a situation where indoor performances are postponed or canceled due to COVID-19, they provide residents with opportunities to enjoy cultural performances in their everyday living spaces, and they offer artists who lack performance venues a chance to perform.
The performances take place every Friday at 7 PM and Saturday at 6 PM for 50 minutes until September.
The performances on July 31 and August 1 are scheduled to be held under the Danghyeoncheon Children's Traffic Park. On Friday, MADK DRUM, famous for their spectacular drum performances, and Hwaryeonmu, the 2019 K-pop cover dance champion team, will perform. On Saturday, the three-member newtro pop band BRIO, consisting of guitar, drums, and vocals, and singer-songwriter Oh Yeol, winner of the 2017 Arirang original song award, will appear. However, plans may change due to COVID-19 spread or weather conditions.
Detailed performance schedules can be found on the Nowon Cultural Foundation website.
The advantage of small-scale busking performances is that the audience can enjoy live performances while avoiding close contact, enclosed spaces, and crowding as much as possible.
The host, Nowon Cultural Foundation, conducts disinfection before each performance and restricts attendance for those not wearing masks, asking for the cooperation of attending residents.
In addition to the touring busking performances, the district also holds street art performances every last Saturday of the month until September at the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail. These include drawing circus acts where artists perform circus acts and draw pictures in front of the audience, physical theater by the theater troupe iMoment, modern dance, a feast of traditional performances, a bubble show by Team Clown delivering happiness, and a modern shamanistic music ritual by the music group theTune. A handmade crafts art flea market called "Kkumgiljang" is also held.
So far, the busking concerts have been held eight times at Danghyeoncheon Seongseo University, Bulamsan Butterfly Garden, Seokgye Station Cultural Park, and Suraksan Danggogae Park. As the performances continue, the audience steadily increases through word of mouth among residents.
The program includes various genres such as the gayageum ensemble "Modern Geum," Indian acoustic duo "Ochu Project," the veteran magic performance group "Nose Hair Magic Troupe," and b-boy group "MB Crew," making it enjoyable for people of all ages and genders.
