The Sejong Books project is an initiative by the Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency to encourage publishers’ commitment to producing quality books and to promote the development of the public reading culture and the creation of a knowledge-based society by selecting outstanding books annually in the categories of general knowledge and academic works.
This year, a total of 400 titles across 10 fields were selected as excellent books in the academic category of the Sejong Books.
The book written by Professor Lim Ki-taek is the ninth volume in the series on contemporary philosophy and architectural theory.
In the book, Professor Lim addresses the Frankfurt School’s ideas, known as social criticism theory, while also examining related architectural and urban discourses as well as trends in German urban architecture.
He provides an in-depth look at architectural discourse directly linked to the Frankfurt School’s critical theory, the phenomenon of the shrinking public sphere, and the concept of social space, presenting these in connection with architecture.
Professor Emeritus Song Myung-hee’s book deals with the life and literature of Kim Myung-soon, Korea’s first female writer to go through the official literary debut process.
In her book, Professor Song analyzes as many of Kim Myung-soon’s works as possible to grasp the full scope of the author, and approaches issues such as misogyny and anger, which have recently become social concerns, through Kim Myung-soon’s works, highlighting that Kim Myung-soon remains a relevant author for contemporary readers.
Prior to this Sejong Books selection, Professor Song’s six books have been recognized as excellent academic books by the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
