Yongin Light Rail Transit Rush Hour Operation Interval Shortened from '5 Minutes to 4 Minutes'
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The interval between trains on the Yongin Light Rail during rush hour will be shortened from the current 5 minutes to 4 minutes.
Gyeonggi Yongin City announced on the 28th that starting from the 3rd of next month, the train interval during the Yongin Light Rail's rush hour (5 PM to 8 PM) will be reduced from 5 minutes to 4 minutes to enhance citizen convenience.
As a result, the congestion inside the trains is expected to decrease, allowing citizens to use the light rail more comfortably.
This adjustment in train intervals was made possible by increasing the number of trains during weekday rush hours from 12 to 15 per one-way trip, according to the contract with the management operator, Neotrans.
Last year, the average number of passengers using the Yongin Light Rail during rush hour was 7,146, accounting for 21.6% of the daily average ridership of 33,079. The shortening of the train intervals is expected to improve convenience and help increase demand during the evening rush hours.
Yongin Light Rail Co., Ltd. plans to post notices about this change in train intervals on all trains, stations, and its website until August 2nd.
Mayor Baek Gun-gi of Yongin stated, "We will do our best to ensure citizen safety and convenience by not only shortening the Yongin Light Rail train intervals but also deploying station assistants and installing platform screen doors."
